We're pleased to announce a new Iron Realm in development: Tears of Polaris. Set within the vast expanse of space, this marks our pioneer venture into the science fiction genre, with unique features ranging from a semi-classless structure, a novel approach to combat, a new skill system, flexible organisations, and of course, spaceships! Tears of Polaris is projected for open beta release in 2008. Visit their forums for the latest news.
Tears of Polaris
Travel the star-lit pathways of space! Explore, exploit, and conquer the innumerable worlds in Tears of Polaris's ever-growing universe of possibilities, a galaxy living in an uneasy era of devious intrigue and violent warfare, meticulous discovery, and careless exploration. Populated by eight varied species of sentient beings and under the
rule of three distrustful stellar empires, the galaxy is both large enough for every man's dream, and too small to fit all its competing factions - be it the greedy Bileath Corporation, the frenzied expansionism of the Trekat Empire, the prescient politics of the Jezira nation, or the entheogenic technological revelry of the Singularity Church.
Lusternia
In Lusternia, Ascension Event 2008 is now underway this month. Nine players will be chosen through nine challenges to see who will rise to be a True Ascendant. This is only the second time in the history of Lusternia that we've had an Ascension Event, and it will continue throughout February with great credit and artifact prizes. An Ascendant is the supreme state to which a player can aspire: infinitely more than mortal yet less than divine, able to wield the incredible powers of both. Any player can compete to become the Ascendant in a variety of challenges, from the mightiest to the meekest; thus, this represents an incredible opportunity for any player, new or old, to become immersed in the richly woven history and evolving story of Lusternia!
Aetolia
Races underwent an epoch-defining change in Aetolia during the month of
January, as the release of Statpacks now allows for the association of a wide range of statistical strengths and weaknesses to any of Aetolia's 15 player races. Adventurers of all these races encountered an explosion of new landscape to explore, as the realm expanded in size with the discovery of the ancient Rajamalan city of Farsai, the temples of Sonn and Ati, and the Eastern Itzatl Rainforest. At the opposite end of the continent, the Western Tundra yielded its icy expanses to explorers, who sought and found the hidden glacial village of Nuunva and the dangerous Tarean Ice Caverns underlying it.
Imperian
Classlead changes were released in Imperian during January; major
changes were made and new abilities were added to Elemancy, Fayth, Groves, and several other skills. Dranor posted a detailed plan for 2008 on Imperian's Forums while Dwyn has been posting teaser information on the development status of the Defilers, Imperian's newest profession. The end of January brought the raging fires of revolution to the city of Kinsarmar. Only time will tell if the Duchy of the Five Towers will survive the political turmoil.
Achaea
In the world of Achaea in January, the God of Suffering, Apollyon returned his watchful gaze to Mhaldor, the City of Evil. Deeming his followers to have grown lax and weak in his absence, his reappearance was marked by a gruesome display of Suffering laid down upon those unfortunate souls. Also in the western reaches of Sapience, a decrepit former institution for the mentally ill was uncovered: Creville Asylum, the infamous Dr. Kortoxian's greatest secret. In combat-related news, the Infernal class received many updates, including a new ability to summon affliction-causing maggots from the earth and numerous modifications to existing abilities.
Thank you all for continuing to enjoy and support the Iron Realms into the year 2008. Don't forget that you can keep up to date on development news for Earth Eternal, Midkemia Online, and Tears of Polaris on their respective forums.
