8.21.2 Icon Placement

Icons exist in their true state on the Plane of Nishnatoba and cast a shadow
into the Prime Material Plane which is plainly visible. Certain things must be
decided by Houses as they gain their Icon, most prominent among them being:
 1) the location of the Shadow Icon, and
 2) the locations at and near the true Icon in Nishnatoba.

The Shadow Icon
---------------
The Shadow Icon is a shadow of the True Icon. It cannot be directly attacked,
damaged, or changed in any way. If the True Icon is destroyed, it will no
longer cast a shadow, which is the indirect way in which a Shadow Icon may be
affected.

The Shadow Icon serves as a transport point and is open to all. Any person at
all may use any Shadow Icon to move to the vicinity of its corresponding True
Icon, whether a member of a House with or without an Icon, or not a member of
any House at all.

Touch the Shadow Icon and, after a suitable delay, you will be transported into
the vicinity of its corresponding True Icon. Those transporting from the True
Icon back to the Prime Material Plane will return to the location of the
corresponding Shadow Icon. Transport occurs in the same manner in either
direction. Simply TOUCH ICON and wait.

The Shadow Icon may be placed with the following restrictions:
 - on the Prime Material Plane
 - on the continent of Sapience
 - outdoors (that means: not indoors)
 - neither in water nor under water

 - not in a city nor Delos
 - not in an area of general use (Seasone's Hut, The Lucretian Athenaeum, etc)
 - not in a Divine Temple

The final placement of the Shadow Icon is subject to approval by Lord Tecton
and may take into account other considerations not noted here.

The True Icon
-------------
The True Icon exists in a small (10-room as of this writing) area on the Plane
of Nishnatoba. Each house may have no more than one True Icon. The area of
Nishnatoba that contains the True Icon is created specifically for each Icon in
accordance with certain rules and the request of the House. Each of these areas
is distinct and separate and does not connect in any way to any other part of
Nishnatoba nor any other area. (*)

This area is FREE PK (see HELP FREE PK).

Nishnatoban Area Design for the True Icon
-----------------------------------------
The design and layout of this area may be requested by the House whose Icon
sits within it. The House may design the map/connections (1 goes north to 2, 2
goes east to 3, south to 1, and in to 4, etc). Connections must work both ways.
That means that if you are in location 1 and go north and end up in location 2,
then going south will return you to location 1.

The True Icon's location in the area is something you may also specify.

Connections between rooms may not be one way, or hidden. Exactly one
connection out of a room may go to any other room. So from room a, if you
go north to room b, then you can't also go east from a to get to b.

You must also specify the arrival location in that area. This is where a person
comes to when that person has stood at your Shadow Icon and done TOUCH ICON and
waited the needful time.

Nishnatoba is mostly ruins, and so will be the areas near the True Icons. The
only flexibility as to environment is that a House may request no more than two
water rooms, no more than two forest rooms, and no more than one desert room. A
House may request zero, one, or two water rooms, zero, one, or two forest
rooms, and zero or one desert room for the True Icon's area of Nishnatoba. You
may request, without certainty that the request will be granted, which rooms
have the special environments you have asked for (water, forest, desert).

The final placement and configuration of the True Icon and its area in
Nishnatoba is subject to approval by Lord Tecton and may take into account
other
considerations not noted here.

(*) It is possible that we may consider allowing connections between two
separate Icon areas in Nishnatoba. If we do so, it will not be for some time,
likely after all Houses wishing an Icon have gotten theirs.
