What Now? - Midkemia Online Online Help

2.3 What Now?

THE HALL OF WORLDS
------------------
Thanks to the mysterious black-robed figure, you have access to the marvels of a Tsurani transportation orb, allowing you limited access to the Hall of Worlds. You can reach the Hall by typing PORTALS at any time.

From the Hall, you can head SOUTH to reach doorways to the Cities of Midkemia. You can head NORTHEAST to reach the Frontier Valley, a great place for new adventurers to explore, quest, and fight enemies.

Remember that you can only use the PORTALS command until you reach level 30, so start exploring the world on your own as well!

EXPLORE YOUR CITY
------------------
Each city has its own unique culture and guilds, but before you rush off to go join up with one of them, you'll want to spend some time talking with city mates and seeing what they have to offer.

Before one can join a guild, they must be promoted out of city novicehood. Ambassadors and their aides can help with these sorts of promotions, you'll want to ask politely for more information by using CT to speak to your whole city.

Once promoted, you can choose from one of two guilds in your city or choose to remain guildless. The guilds are:

ELVANDAR: Queen's Guard - Elite defenders of the Eledhel Court.
Spellweavers - Masters of magic and natural lore.

KRONDOR: Mockers - The shadowy, criminal underworld.
Pathfinders - A special branch of Krondor's military.

SAR-SARGOTH: Clan Dragon - Seekers of ancient Valheru power.
Clan Raven - Those who know honor and cunning.

STARDOCK: Stardock - Pug's fabled Academy of Magic.

In addition, every guild has an NPC representative in its home city (or at the Academy of Stardock, for Stardock). You may speak to the guild representative to learn about the guild and, if you wish, alert the player members of the guild that you are interested in joining. See HELP DIR for instructions on how to locate these NPCs (and many other useful people and locations).

EXPLORING THE WORLD
-------------------
You gain experience for exploring new locations in Midkemia, rewarding you for being an intrepid explorer. This is often a very simple and rewarding way to gain experience at low levels. Be wary of dangerous areas, though!

If you lose your way, you can always try to remember your nearest landmarks using DIRS. HELP DIRS will also tell you how to follow certain paths.

VERMIN: HUNTING RATS AND WEEVILS
--------------------------------
Many vermin infest the Cities of Midkemia. By typing VERMIN, you will see when these foul critters enter and exit your location. You can kill them and sell their corpses for money!

See HELP VERMIN for more details about how much they are worth and where to sell them.

EXPLORING THE FRONTIER VALLEY
-----------------------------
A lush valley along the frontier of the Kingdom of the Isles and adjoining the Inclindel Gap, which separates the Northlands from the south, the Frontier Valley is a great place for new players to quest and explore. Try greeting Gregor, the Priest of Prandur, to learn more about the Valley and its conflict.

You can reach the Frontier Valley by going northeast from the Hall of Worlds.

EXPLORING EGGERSON OUTPOST
--------------------------
Eggerson Outpost is a good place to explore if you are more advanced (level 10+). It is set into the foothills along the road between Ylith and Hawk's Hollow in the Kingdom of the Isles.

You can reach Eggerson Outpost by going east from the Hall of Worlds.

EXPLORING THE SEDIA TUNNELS
---------------------------------------------------

The Sedia Tunnels is a great place to learn about the different types of quests and help you develop a strategy for solving quests outside newbie areas. It is full of unique and exciting quests and the residents there give helpful hints to teach you how to complete each quest.

You can reach the Sedia Tunnels by going southeast from the Hall of Worlds.

OTHER HALL OF WORLDS EXITS
--------------------------
The other exits tend to lead to more advanced areas, so if you feel you are progressing beyond your current area, consider trying out a new one. If you are dying too quickly or it's too challenging, then you may need to hold off until you increase your level.

DEATH AND DYING
---------------
When you die, you end up in the Halls of the Dead. You will have to wait here for a brief time before you may APPROACH THE THRONE to be judged by Lims-Kragma (and hopefully reborn!).

Note: Newbies cannot die until level 10, unless the attacking NPC is loyal to an organization or above level 50.

See HELP DEATH for more information.

ASKING FOR HELP: THE NEWBIE CHANNEL AND GUIDES
----------------------------------------------
You can always ask for help on the NEWBIE channel. Just type NEWBIE followed by the text you want to say to speak on it. Normally, many Midkemians will help answer your question.

You can also look for a Guide (named Carpo, Thallo, and Auxesia), who appear in bright yellow on QW or WHO. They are Guides who exist solely to help newbies such as yourself, so feel free to ask one! You'll often hear them speaking on the newbie channel as well.

ABOVE ALL: HAVE FUN

Above all, have fun!
