Some PK Clarifications and Reminders

I wanted to take a few moments to provide some clarity around Achaea's PK policies and address several topics that we have been receiving questions on of late.

Firstly, Achaea is a dangerous and living world, sometimes you will die.

Next, let me reiterate that there is no such thing as cause. It is not considered in PK rulings and you should not consider it in deciding whether or not you should attack another person.

Some of the factors we do consider are:
Whether there was legitimate roleplay reasoning.
Whether the aggressor has previously displayed a pattern of this behaviour.
Whether the response was excessive in comparison to whatever prompted the aggression.

As you may have noticed, we no longer give answers to hypothetical PK questions. Achaean PK is a dynamic thing, every case is different, therefore we cannot rule on possibilities.

An extra note here: Simply stating in your response to an issue that an individual did not try any IC methods to resolve a situation is not going to get you far as we will take into consideration exactly how much RP you enacted with them as well. We are not going to require anyone to bend over backwards to find IC resolution to a problem when the only RP interaction the aggressor has provided is attacking.

Here are some reminders and some clarifications on common issues that we see:

IGNORE and IGNORE CIRCUMVENTION

If someone has you ignored it means they do not wish to communicate with you. There is -never- a situation where it is okay to create another character to communicate with them, have another player communicate with them, or to communicate with them via IRE OOC vehicles such as the forums.

Failure to adhere to these standards will result in you being punished for harassment which can lead to total loss of all your characters and a game ban.

Ignoring someone does not negate any RP reason they might have to kill you, it is not a get out of PK free card.

In addition, if you have someone ignored, you should not be talking about them, yelling to them, or in any other way communicating with them as that is a very clear abuse of the system.

BOUNTIES

The individual who places a city bounty is the one who will be held accountable should someone issue.

Bounties are for the purpose of retribution against someone who has done something against the city for which other methods of retribution do not exist. You might place a bounty on someone for raiding but putting one on them for shrine defilement is unwarranted as there is a specific system in place to deal with shrines.

While we are on the topic of cities: cities (and other orgs) can enemy people for whatever reason they like.

SEAFARING

The oceans are like Annwyn and the Underworld. Anything that happens at sea cannot be brought onto land. If your ship is attacked, or otherwise hindered, gather up some friends and resolve it with your own vessels. If you are issued for bringing ship vs ship conflicts onto land, it will not go in your favour.

SANCTIONS

Raiding is a lot of fun, and it's a great way to contribute to the faction dynamic of Achaea, but attaining a sanction should be done so with a little care. Until a sanction is in place you need roleplay justification for any attack on another person. Wanting to raid, or needing kills to gain a sanction is not sufficient justification.

~ ~ ~

Healthy conflict is something that keeps people logging into Achaea, it often expands upon the stories you are writing for those involved and even peripheral characters. Keeping it fun for all parties is a great way to ensure that you've always got people willing to fight with and against!

We are in the process of updating help files to make this all clearer but should you have specific questions, please use ISSUE ME <your question> and we will do our best to advise where possible.
