A New Tradeskill - Furnishing!

We are pleased to unveil a new tradeskill available for learning: Furnishing!

The intent of this tradeskill is to bring furniture purchase and creation fully into the hands of the playerbase.

Raw commodities are used to build basic FRAMES.

Each furniture type has its own frame, which can then be altered to the desired specification through utilising various skills within the Furnishing skillset.

Raw commodities are used to create frames, but the various tools and shop-space are provided by the Carpentry and Upholstery Workshop, meaning work upon frames requires both a commodity cost and a gold sovereign fee paid to the workshop.

Hard Frames
-----------
Hard frames are bare-bones constructs made from the wood commodity which are used to build solid furniture. Hard frames may be altered in the following ways: shape, dimensions, specification, style, colour, finish, covering, lining, and material.

Soft Frames
-----------
Soft frames (or throws) are woven out of the cloth commodity and are used to create fabric-based furniture pieces such as rugs, tapestries, runners and sheets. Soft frames may be altered in only style and colour.

Furnishing
----------
FRAME <frame> INSPECT will show you the alterations made to a frame. Once satisfied with all of the alterations, the frame is ready to be furnished. Within a workshop, you can:

FURNISH <frame> when you are satisfied with your frame to realise your choices into a piece of real furniture.

There is currently one Carpentry and Upholstery workshop, it is overseen by Fronck in Delos.

Sampling
--------
As a transcendent Furnisher you will be able to utilise specialised materials upon your frames to create the look you desire.

MATERIALS in Furnishing will enable you to collect samples of special material throughout Sapience.

These samples may be used on frames to alter their outer appearance.

For example: A furnisher might take a crude frame of a chair and apply cherrywood samples to make it a cherrywood chair, or samples of bone to make it a bone chair.

There are a large number of materials now scattered across the land to collect and use, and the only way to know is to find them and attempt to sample them.

SAMPLE <object> will attempt to collect a usable sample.

SAMPLES will show which (and how many) samples you have collected in your travels. These samples are consumeable, non-transferrable, and non-tradeable.

Placing
-------
Once furnished, furniture may be traded/given/sold freely until it is PLACED. Upon its placing, furniture is no longer movable and cannot be picked up. At this point, the furniture is considered to be permanently owned.

Restrictions on where furniture may be placed are as such:
- In a home which you own.
- In a room owned by an organisation which you are a recognised leader of.
- In the cabin of a ship that you own.
- In a shop that you own.

Once a piece of furniture is placed, the only way for it to be removed is to be DISASSEMBLED by a trained Furnisher. This will return a handful of commodities, but nothing near its market value, so choose its location wisely.

Customisation
-------------
On our side, this new furniture structure will be far more dynamic in the sense of customisations and interaction.

Furniture will no longer be subject to its own unique customisation process, and may be customised simply through the same automated process available for normal items.

In combination with this we'll also be taking suggestions for new materials and furniture types over on the Achaean Forums!

Happy Furnishing!
