When nights are long and minds grow weak
When quill on paper ceases its scrawl,
I feel the loneliness that creeps
Through the windows and up these walls.
I feel the empty bed, cold sheets,
And into dreamless sleep I?ll fall.

The pristine page mocks the heart,
But empty hearts can?t beat or break
Dreary, life withers for want of art,
But lilies don?t bloom in frozen lakes
And every day we spend apart
My words, in silence, slowly fade.

No flowery language, no sonnet or ode,
Is left to my tongue or to my quill.
What the heart wants is someone to hold,
Not just another blank parchment to fill.
In all the poems and stories I?m told,
I?ve found no answers, and fear I never will.

But still, I recall a happier day,
A brighter time with warmer nights,
When we spoke into the evening so late,
Hands clasped, laying side by side.
And when I woke, whispering your name,
I saw my inspiration in your green eyes.

Penned by my hand on the 2nd of Ero, in the year 634 AF.
