Shadows Embrace

Darkness creeps on wings of night,
Chasing shadows, quenching light.
Tendrils grasp at all who dare
Brave its chill and mournful air.

Mortals huddle tight in bed,
Idle dreams fly through each head.
Still the darkness creeps e'er near
Minds soon caught in webs of fear.

Nightmare sinks its teeth in time,
Corrupting sleep through midnight's chime.
Twisted landscapes turn to rot,
Allies turn and loved ones plot.

Yet each night, the dawn does break,
Freeing thoughts as dreamers wake.
Budding minds embrace the day,
Fearful doubts soon cast away.

Even in the darkest night,
Shadows cast are proof of light.
Hid somewhere amidst the gloam,
Till the morning guides us home.

Penned by my hand on the 20th of Phaestian, in the year 683 AF.
