Different Paths

Walking along a trail one day
I stopped to listen to what the wind had to say
It told me a story painful, sweet, and nigh
It told me the problem of a path's good bye

I listened for a moment, my heart in my chest
My love I knew, but my loyalty to be put to the test
The land I loved and I still hold dear
I was to leave, because Fate beckoned me near

I listened to the bittersweet melody
Never once having felt such agony
Yet I know that this path I must walk
Though it I knew many would balk

I had my word to fulfill
That I had to do yet still
My heart in bittersweet agony
This was my path, this my Destiny

I walked many paths in my life
Yet this, none given me such strife
I love the land that I do call home
Yet it is Fate's hand that I come

Pain, heartache, fear, anxiety
Loving, cheery, happiness, gaiety
Courage, encouragement, hope galore
Betrayal, torn, whole no more

These things I know, in the actions we make
That it is with a path that we must take
It is not that I love my land less, I love it more
I shall protect all I care about, to Lord Thoth's Door

Penned by my hand on the 20th of Valnuary, in the year 704 AF.
