I think a more appropriate way of describing it would be thus:

"The Bastion sort of stands unsteadily in a drunken daze as it tries to figure out which way it is going, occasionally stumbling on people in a painful manner but is not quite sure why anything is happening."

Though surely I know less than a group of ragtag mercenaries that proclaim to have beliefs of some kind but refuse to divulge any sense of zealotry or understanding upon anyone, but rather would mock the world, and even it's own citizens because they fail to understand that which remains unexplained.

I am sure the citizens of Ashtan are quite smart however and will realise they are being used by a Mad God that will only take what they deserve, and never give anything in return.
