Weather

Hi folks,

With the return of the sun and the changes to time, you will now find
that weather has been rebuilt from the ground up to help better relay
the climate of Sapience as you travel the realms.

The most important thing to note with these changes is that temperature
now has an impact on your character. In colder climates such as around
the Tarean Polar and beyond, wearing warm clothes is recommended to keep
yourself insulated from the cold, while down near the Mhojave Basin,
wearing less will help you stave the uncomfortable heat. Mechanically,
this equates to a couple messages of being hot or cold along with an
associated drain to your endurance or willpower respectively.

You can also use certain skills you keep you warm or cool, such as by
using campfires in Woodlore, or the Heat and Chill vibrations in
Crystalism.

This also brings an end to the sporadic weather phenomena in Aetolia. No
more blizzards slipping into clear skies, followed by sudden heavy
rainfall at the drop of a hat. While old weather phenomena still exist
unchanged, there are some new ones you may get to see, such as
hailstorms, thunder and lightning, firestorms, tornadoes, flooding, fog,
ice, and many others. The more severe weather will be less commonly
seen, and quite rare.

You can check out the weather in your area using OUTLOOK, which will
give you a basic rundown of the current conditions. When we eventually
bring back the iron coin shop, you will be able to purchase a bronze and
silver anemometer imbued with the 'meteorologist' power, which will give
you access to the FORECAST command. This will display more precise
climate measurements, along with the air mass you stand within.

I don't expect this to be perfect on the first run through; I'll be
keeping an eye on weather to make sure it changes appropriately to given
seasons and day cycles. If you feel like suggesting something you'd like
to see, feel free to drop me a message.

Finally, for the time being this new system only affects Sapience. We'll
update Albedos in due time, but for now it'll simply display whether it
is day or night.

Thanks, and enjoy!

Penned by my hand on the 21st of Arios, in the year 452 MA.
