Shrubbing and Privacy

Unfortunately I have to bring attention to a player we have recently banned.

Normally we quietly shrub and ban problem players because they are looking for more attention.

Akhan was recently banned for constant verbal attacks on players and volunteers. He would like people to believe he was banned for talking smack about the administration (me).

However, Ahkan has been constantly belittling players and volunteers for years. He has been banned and muted many times across all IRE games. He has been punished for directly lying in issues.

Anyone that has spent time with Ahkan knows that he is a troll.

In a parting shot and last ditch effort to 'get even' he distributed a doctored log, filled with his own inflammatory statements, in which Eoghan (one of our volunteers) is constantly mocking me. All of this communication is more than a year old and in many cases, out of context.

Ahkan has been not only shrubbed and banned from Imperian, but from all IRE games as a result of his continued harassment of players and volunteers.

While this log is amusing to some of you, a few people are bothered by the indications that volunteers can read all of your logs whenever they want.

Let me be clear about what gods can and cannot do regarding logs.

1. Imperian is a game and every command entered into the game is logged. All online commercial games targeted at adults do this.

2. Only Garryn and I have access to these logs. We ONLY review them when looking for cheating and dealing with game violations.

3. These logs are vital for resolving players issues and without them we can't assist law enforcement in going after sexual predators.

4. No volunteers (including coders) have EVER had access to these logs or the servers they reside on.

5. High ranked volunteers have a command called omni, which allows them to flag a word and get notifications when someone says it. For example, I have the words monolith and remnant flagged, so I could get an idea of what was happening in the previous event and adjust the event accordingly.

Some of you are bothered that this omni ability is available to volunteers. It is only used to flag words that are specific to a realm, RP event, or other game activity (I just reviewed all currently flagged words). However, I have decided it is better to remove the command completely from the game so players will not have to worry about it.

I want to point out that players should not expect that any command entered into an IRE game is completely private. While we have no desire to watch players, we do log everything.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please message me here or email me at jeremy@imperian.com.

Penned by my hand on the 19th of Vita, in the year 103 AM.
