IRE Asks: What Type of AFKer Are You?

Ninja Class

Many of us are logged into our favourite Iron Realms games for hours on end, sometimes racking up a full 24 hours of play time (or more) per week! However, can you honestly say that all of that time is spent actively playing the game, paying attention to what is happening? The truth is, it's kind of a pain to completely log off whenever you need to step away from the screen.

Going AFK in any Iron Realms game can be exceptionally dangerous, as leaving your character unattended opens yourself to theft, or worse, your friends putting you in silly woman's clothing. What's interesting is that Iron Realms' policies on AFKness have changed or varied as the years go by, as can be seen from this timeline of announce news from Achaea:

While most people have gone AFK at some point in their life for one reason or another, people have preferred methods of going AFK; some might AFK the day away standing next to city guards, while others might start writing an entry in their journal. Or maybe you have a bed, or some other private room? No matter how, comment below and tell us your favourite way to AFK!

I check out when I've got other stuff come up on my comp..so..I sit there like an idiot and stuff, hehe

I usually just AFK on a guard clot or in my favorite room along the siege line. I don't just AFK to do it though. I am usually watching a movie on Netflix or working on some writing. I remain AFK, however, simply because I want to make sure I'm alert enough for Shardfalls, if somebody talks to me, or if anything else important happens.

.

...what game did they get that screenshot from?!?!?

I wish I could figure that out, heh

are dormant guys counted as afk?

.

I usually burrow when I think I'll be AFK for a couple of minutes...

afk

afker that enjoys credits

well, Shallam's gone, so now I just sit around.

I just sit around in trees, mainly

I'm a mhaldorian, so I still avoid it

I just log off when I want to go afk

.

Other day I accidentally AFked in my grove for many hours without realizing it, not one theft attempt or anything. Seems theft is almost totally gone from Achaea.

.

.

I used to afk but I really don't care if I lose defs now so I just log off if Im not on the computer.

I keep a fancy scroll for just such times!

If I am going to go afk for a short time I go in and read the news. Only if I plan on coming back within the 10 minutes otherwise I will just leave.

I'm apparently the kind of afker that gets kicked out of their city for afking to much.

I mainly find AFK annoying when I find unresponsive players in public spots. For that reason I always go AFK in some place people won't just find me unless they look for me specifically. Unless I'm really well hidden from public, I don't leave my character unattended for very long! When people do find me, I always feel a bit bad for not having been there to interact with them.

I just tellsoff, gtoff, ctoff, and idle in my haven.  It takes me off the who list.

or a higher profile player, being afk is pretty risky.

I'm a 'my child has woken up crying' AFKer. That could be quick or it could take an hour so I teleport to my manse or quit.

haha! Love it. Almost there myself.

I don't afk all the time but if I do I usually sit in some clearing or something and just sleep. Of course I'm under lvl 10 right now so I don't have much to worry about. Although if I have to do something long term like sleep I tab into a different window and sometimes forget I've got the mud going.

.

I almost never AFK, but idling is something I do frequently. Used to be at gathering spots or obscure locations in trees or underground. Anymore though, I've gone as far as idling in high traffic areas. I've seen people turn daydreamy very abruptly though, and then have them tell me they don't have a timeout set.

.

I'll sleep/med when I have to afk.

that loves the nonviolence rooms

I don't really AFK.

.

If it needs to happen, I try to hit the city or a very out of the way place. But I try to avoid it.

Generally if I know I will be gone a short time (bio break for example) I'll sit myself in my manse, but if I know I will be gone for a while I'll log out.  No one is perfect though, I have had times when I've been in a rush (late for work) and forgotten to log out, then come back to find I'm still logged in...

I stay logged in and AFK throughout the day so I don't lose certain defenses like blessings, cause it's to much of a pain to have find someone to redo them.

Is the best time for a quick bathroom run, getting a drink or a snack. And now I'm not sure what I'll do when I'm Logosian. Probably meditate!

.

I never AFK; always journal or qq.

I afk to bake cakes

I have taken a big liking to burrowing

I try not to afk too long if I have to, normally if I'm going to do something that takes me completely away i log off.. but like when I use to play Achaea I'd use my ship, my grove, i'd burrow, i use to use iso..journals, scrolls letters and if I can't get to any of those quick enough just burrow or something.

For MKO mostly in my estate or somewhere indoors.. and end up checking 5 minutes but i'm doing someh mko related even if I'm not looking at the screen...if I go clean or something i log off if I think its gonna be awhile.

Not to afk.

ffffffff

tired

afking is the best way to contribute

very frequent

Journals FTW its the safest way to AFK if you are going to do it, but if I am going to be longer than a few minutes its logout time, I mean herbs are fairly inexpensive and you dont get yelled at if you poof into your journal for a loooooonnnngggggg time

not afk, sitting here staring at the auction counting down even though I didn't bid on anything

I think that the favoured AFK is probably whilst auto-bashing or auto-fishing.  I hope the perpertrators are caught and permashrubbed.

I like to AFK at Centre Crossing.
