Regarding fraternization

Shieldwarden Bronislav Zviera,

While I appreciate even empty platitudes as gestures of respect, you can save your breath. Caoimhaen and Lauria are enemies of the Dawnspear. This decision, as far as I'm aware, is set in stone until such a time that they repent their oathbreaking ways and return to the fold of Light.

I, too, am astounded that Caoimhaen has gone from being a friend to being an enemy in such short time. I do not like losing my friends, and I certainly do not like hearing that they could be capable of deceit and disloyalty. I would like not to believe it. I would like to believe that this was one big misunderstanding, and that both Caoimhaen and Lauria are hard at work, speaking with the right people, doing the right things, striving to make right their wrongs and return to our City.

But they are not doing these things.

I would agree that these two are good people, but that does not make them Good people. Behaving oneself in a civil way, being polite, saying "please" and "thank you" this makes you a good person. And I do prefer the company of good people. But against the onslaught of Chaos, Darkness and Evil against Creation and the Light, even good people falter and hesitate in their duties. They would prefer non-violence. They would prefer not to shed blood. They would rather let the Dawnspear slip burning into the sea than risk their lives defending it. I have no use for these people, and nor do the Bloodsworn Gods.

The torches we bear, those of Righteousness and Light, are not to be set aside when it might inconvenience us in certain social circles. Should we crack and supine ourselves to such temptations to prefer civility to loyalty then we will have failed our oaths. Fraternization is not taken lightly because it is what makes sheep out of proud soldiers and silent statues out of zealots.

I do not expect you to understand the intricacies and minutiae of a conflict that you watch from a safe distance. You are a mere observer, and that path you have chosen. Those who adhere to the Light are held to a higher standard. Should they desire the lower road, it is refreshing to know that they will be accepted somewhere, but it is not with the Dawnspear.

Regards,
Soldier Addama, Ward of the Dawnblade
