Targossas,

In the Heart of the Vashnars, a rumble has been heard, a tiny one. This rumble is a series of inaccurate tellings that have been spoken by members of your city in regards to the occurrences that lead to Cyrene casting aside devotion. I have heard many different versions of what happened, but let me give you the definitive and accurate version.

Around the year 628 ASE, Antidas Wintermoune approached Cyrene and requested the terms to be unenemied. Cyrene accorded a special privilege to this man, out of a sense of what appears now to be fondness for Shallam of Old and the want to be on friendly terms with Targossas. He was unenemied, with a suspended sentence that would be fully reinstated if he violated the laws of Cyrene after paying a fine of one million gold, that it appears now was paid by the Order of Lady Aurora.

In the year 635 ASE, Antidas Wintermourne robbed from the Ashtani shop of Agrias de Feura, a Cyrenian citizen. As per our laws and the agreement of the suspended sentence, Antidas was re-enemied to Cyrene and the entirety of his sentence was placed back upon him. It appears now that he feels as if he was somehow wronged and that the Order of Lady Aurora was cheated out of the one million gold fine.

After he was enemied, Antidas violated Cyrenian laws a number of times with multiple counts of assault/murder filed against him, but not for the attack of Cyrenians. He was chasing some enemy of Targossas that fled into Cyrene, and this is only to note the casual disregard of the laws of Cyrene. A disregard that does not bother him, nor does it bother Targossas as our laws are not important in doing the will of the Bloodsworn. This is not unknown to me.

However, roughly half a year ago, Antidas Wintermourne, a man who is currently your Minister of Security, prismed into the shop of a Cyrenian, in Cyrene and stole most of the goods therein. When the Dawnlord was approached about this, not out of anger or any other emotion other than wishing to see some recompense had - Cyrene was informed that because Antidas still felt that the Order of Lady Aurora was wronged in his re-enemying there would be nothing done and this was not a Targossian matter.

Now, I do not highlight all of these things to give Antidas any credit or to point fingers, but simply to show a pattern of behaviour and explain that it is not Cyrene that wronged him. He broke our laws, there were consequences. This time, as he was a Minister of Targossas, we decided that no preaching or sermonising would be allowed by Targossians within the walls of Cyrene. Members of the Diaspora who are not Targossian would still be free to give sermons and preach, simply not those who condoned and colluded in regards to his actions. Please note that no other city is permitted to preach or sermonise in Cyrene currently. Further, we returned the one million gold to the Order of Lady Aurora, so that he could cease this Keresian style of vengeance against Cyrene, if it was that important to him.

In the light of this series of events, there was a sermon given in Cyrene by a Cyrenian and then the next month, the Dawnlord posting as the Augur of Light declared that because of this supposed wholesale denial and rejection of the Bloodsworn, and insult to Them, that Cyrene would either renounce this ban on preaching and sermonising or one of three things would happen to our devotionists. They would quit Cyrene and be a rogue, they would come to serve in Targossas or they would be excommunicated.

To date since this letter was shared with both the Diaspora and Cyrene, no Cyrenian devotionist has left to do either of the two former things. Instead, there has been an outpouring of support from the city and we have raised 2636 credits, 1,575,000 gold and over 70,000 regeants and curatives to assist those who will be changing class. The city will be doing its best to cover as much of the cost itself for our devotionists as we can - however if anyone wishes to donate to assist them, please feel free to deposit them directly to Cyrene and notate that it is for our devotionists. Everyone has my word that all that is donated to them will be spent on them and only them.

In regards to the demands placed upon Cyrene, we no longer wish to be burdened with the yoke of devotion. As such, paladins and priests may no longer join Cyrene without being manually inducted, which will not happen. We do not wish our citizens to be beholden to foreign Divine and we do not care how anyone feels about this. We do not require or wish congratulations or condemnations from any group or city. That is not the purpose of this post. The purpose is to highlight the truth of what happened - be it for good or ill. Perhaps this shines favourably on Cyrene and perhaps it does not.

We're Cyrene and we will not be intimidated.

Verrucht.

Penned by my hand on the 25th of Miraman, in the year 681 AF.
