Major Milestone
1997
Achaea Alpha Testing Begins
September 9 — Achaea opens its first port on port 4500. The earliest players discover a world full of bugs and promise, with Sarapis posting daily updates as guilds, skills, and cities take shape in real time.
Achaea Grand Opening
October 7 — After multiple postponements, Sarapis announces the Grand Opening of Achaea, Dreams of Divine Lands. All alpha characters are wiped and history begins. Divine Orders are introduced. The first cities — Ashtan, Shallam, and Hashan — begin to take shape.
Achaea Foundations of the World
The Isle of Delos, the Chrysalis Basilica, the Raphaelan and Prelatorian Highways, and the first forest regions are added. Guilds begin recruiting. Player rankings, gold currency, and basic combat are established.
1998
Achaea The Great Code Rewrite
After four months of development work behind the scenes, a completely rewritten version of Achaea launches in late March. The new codebase allows for much faster bug fixes and enables the rapid addition of new features going forward.
Achaea Guild of Magi Founded
April — Daedalus, Guardian of Balance, calls for Founders of the Guild of Magi, a new guild dedicated to wielding magic in its purest forms. It marks one of the earliest formal guild expansions of Achaea’s post-rewrite era.
Achaea Shallam Added & Advertising Begins
June — The holy city of Shallam is completed and connected to the Raphaelan Highway. Achaea is submitted to 400 search engines, listed on the MUD Connector, and begins advertising — the first major push to grow the playerbase.
1999
Achaea Alignment System & Rolepoints
January–February — The alignment system replaces the belief stat, tied to quests, mob kills, and player combat. Shortly after, the rolepoints system is introduced to encourage in-character behaviour, rewarding genuine roleplay.
Achaea City Offices & Military Structure
June — City offices and formal political structures are introduced. Viziers and Archons can now appoint ministers, brand enemies and allies, and manage city finances. The groundwork for Achaea’s living city-state politics is laid.
Achaea Credits System & Investment
February — Achaea runs a special on credits to fund a new server, marking a pivotal moment in IRE’s shift toward a sustainable commercial model. First-purchase bonuses and mentor credit rewards follow later in the year.

March 22 — After months of delays, Achaea migrates to a new, faster server. The 50,000+ files take hours to transfer, but the result is a game running over 50% faster — Free-for-all events with 30+ players can now run without balance lag.
Achaea Orc/Ogre Plot — First Major World Event
September — The Aalen forest burns, the Tsol’aa King is vivisected, and the hidden Tsol’teth agent Zh’risia is exposed behind the plot. It marks Achaea’s first fully developed multi-session, player-driven world narrative event.

October 7 — On the exact four-year anniversary of Achaea’s grand opening, Aetolia: The Midnight Age launches. Back in Achaea the same day: the city of Cyrene is founded, the Runewardens guild is created, new races Satyrs and Sirens are added, and the Shaman class is born.

Achaea Birth of Pandora; Aegis Departs

Milestone Auto-Class System Launches in Achaea
May 3 — After years of class being bound to guild membership, Achaea launches the auto-class system: players can now choose their class independently of any guild. Houses are introduced to provide structure and community outside the old guild-centric model. This is one of the most significant mechanical overhauls in Achaea’s history.
Achaea Priest and Shaman Skill Reworks
May — With the auto-class system live, skill trees are reorganised. Shamans receive Vodun as their third skill; Priests receive Healing. The class lead programme begins formalising a feedback loop between players and developers.
2006
Achaea City-House Political System
