7.7 CLOTHING
Clothing has only one specific use in Aetolia: looking good and saving others from your nudity! While cheap clothing is readily available in any major city, considerably finer and more expensive clothing is also available, should you wish to give your fashion sense a spot of exercise.
In every city, and most villages, you will find purveyors of clothing that suit that city or village. For instance, Enorian merchants tend to sell lighter, looser clothing: the better to stay cool in their hot environment. On the other hand, Spinesreach, for instance, will tend to sell heavier clothing, often made of wool, in order that their citizens may stay warmer in their relatively colder climate. Villages tend to sell a small selection of merchandise oriented around a particular theme. For instance, the desert village of el'Jazira deals primarily in a few high-quality leather goods. You are encouraged to explore the land and seek out clothes that may only be purchased in remote villages.
Many Aetolians have also picked up the skill of Tailoring, and with enough skill invested in the craft, many of them have begun to stock up player-owned shops with their different designs. HELP TAILORING will give you more information on this craft, and if you are interested, take it up.
On an out of character note, the reason that nice clothing is sometimes so expensive, and still wears out frequently, is that players tend to wear the same clothes day in, and day out, which wears clothes out quite quickly. Instead of making you maintain a full wardrobe, we simulate the on-going cost associate with dressing nicely by simply making you buy another set of nice clothes every now and then.
In order to wear clothing, simply type WEAR <clothing>. In order to remove it, type REMOVE <clothing>. You can append an emote to both of these actions with square brackets, so long as the 'item' you are wearing is mentioned.
Eg. WEAR HAT [plops $item on his head]
You can also look at another player's clothing.
Eg. LOOK <person> <piece of clothing>
Be aware that clothing is divided up by where on your body it is worn, and you generally will only be able to wear a certain number of each type of clothing. A few items can be worn in more than one location to counter-balance this, done so by using the same command (WEAR) followed by ON <location>.
Eg. WEAR HAT ON HEAD
If the item in question is already being worn, it can be shifted between locations by using the SHIFT <item> TO <location> command. This will silently move your clothing from one location to another.
You will find that items won't be concealed automatically, such as you might expect. If the item isn't covered up, or doesn't appear to be worn in a fashion suitable to your liking, the ATTIRE command may be for you. More can be found in HELP ATTIRE.
You can also use a DYEKIT on specific clothing (it will say so on PROBE), tailoring the design to your needs. See HELP DYEKIT for more information.
