Freedom's Paradox

Written by: Versifier Sabah Berhanu

what petty kings are those who claim
that freedom is the self-contained
result of causing much oppression
violence, force, and brute aggression
freedom to what? is what i ask
the irony is unsurpassed
your "freedom" comes at such a price
only killing will suffice
i'll take the freedom to create
to love and make instead of hate
to choose my own way in this life
not to be forced by sword or knife
break my body, storm the walls
my free heart will still beat strong
not your old, tired war drums
but with hope that overcomes

Penned by my hand on the 24th of Chronos, in the year 651 AF.
