Sleep's Embrace

Please, may I sing you a lullaby
As you drift to sleep tonight.
Now, dear one, close your eyes,
For the stars are bright and radiant.
Rest your body and go to bed,
I will be here to protect you.

It is now long past your curfew.
The moon is high in the sky
So it is time now to rest your head.
Let your dreams take flight.
Without reality as a deterrent
Your are free of all the lies.

Leave behind the people's cries,
Step forward, learn what is true.
Your mind and body are divergent.
It is time for your soul to fly,
Time for you to gain the sight.
You have nothing here to dread.

This world, to you, is dead,
Time for a new one to rise.
Your dreams will set things right
In your world that is new.
Let the visions lift you high
Above all that is abhorrent.

Sleep comes now like a torrent
Filling you with knowledge fed
From a source you cannot justify.
Now, dear one, comes your prize
That some day you just might rue
As it brings you to a new height.

The sun comes with burning light.
With it comes your descent.
As you lose all you knew
From that place you briefly tread,
Listen close to all I've said
As real life begins to pry.

Now a fright you cannot deny,
Your errant world always dies.
Where once you flew, now you're led.

Penned by my hand on the 22nd of Daedalan, in the year 663 AF.
