Mayaween Frights

Another Step in the Dance
Of the stars above our heads
A most curious time
Where the unholy and the undead
Walk the streets, but fear not sir
That face is cust a guise
Tis just a season of jump scares,
The true fear lies inside.

They dress themselves in costumes dark
To scare those far and near,
They joke and laugh at ghouls and ghosts
For tis not those they fear.
Below the surface lies the truth,
Emotion deep and raw,
Emotion that would tear them asunder
If fear's true face they saw.

The maiden, skin so fair and soft,
You'd think her honor pure,
But her fear lies with the child unborn
For whom their was no cure.

The mariner confined to land
Whose heart calls for the sea,
True fear lies just beneath the waves
Where last his wife he did see.

The widow who doth consider
Ending her own run
Before true fear doth show His face
And she buries her third son.

The soldier, young, just back from war
Who cries late in the night,
Sees true Fear's face in blood-soaked dreams,
Of an enemy, too young to fight.

The general with the peppered beard,
The cynic, grizzled and old,
Fears the day he meets the souls
Of those he marched in the cold.

The altar boy, so young and sweet,
Just a simple fear of the night.
In time, the boy will come to know
The demons that lurk in the Light.

The butcher's lad from down the way
Who's bright and quick to think,
But always fearing beatings
Once his father's hit the drink.

Fear is different for us all
So enjoy the spooks and frights
True Fear has not come to call,
So be thankful this night.

Penned by my hand on the 10th of Ero, in the year 697 AF.
