Year after year I struggled
just to awaken
from the insomnia of that playful
violet, and then

the lavender
stands up, stubbornly, in the dark.
"Don't try to wake
too hard," it whispers,

and leans toward me with a sad
smile. It shivers
under my gentlest touch.
